National Defence Monument
The Vaci Honvéd Monument is a historical memorial in the city, erected in 1868, the year after the Compromise of Independence, to commemorate the victims of the 1848-49 War of Independence.
It is interesting to note that the monument was built from public donations, and even Lajos Kossuth, who lived in Turin as an emigrant, supported its construction with 100 forints.
This memorial was the first 48' memorial in our country, so its inauguration was a huge celebration of national importance. Today it is still an important place of commemoration, especially in the spring.
