Vác Lutheran Church
The Evangelicals of the Vác Agostic faith built their church on the former Sétatér between 1866 and 1868, based on the plans of the Budapest architect Edmund Krempe.
The Romanesque-style, single-nave, vaulted building, the work of master builder Alois Cacciari of Václav, was consecrated on 22 November 1868. The church's cast-iron spire is visible from afar. Despite the best efforts of the congregation, no money could be raised for the tower, and so the plan for the tower in the openwork style was born. Initially, this divided the congregation, who were much resentful, saying that "...all they could afford was a tower with holes." The last time a redesign was considered was in 1927, but then architect Gyula Sárdy said. The tower is fine as it is! - The idea never came up again.
They used to say: Vác is the city of towers. It is a city of church steeples of many denominations, all in different styles. The style and atmosphere of the openwork metal tower of this Lutheran church, which has become an important industrial monument, stands out. Today, everyone is proud of its unique 'holey tower'.
The church can be visited during worship, otherwise it can be visited from outside.
