Mountain Tower

The castle of Vác was once an excellent base for controlling Danube traffic, but nowadays only the remains of the castle can be seen along the Danube. Of the city's fortifications, only the Hegyes Tower, the northernmost corner tower of the medieval city walls, survived intact through the Turkish occupation.

Interestingly, after the turbulent times, the fortress-like building was used as a prison for a while, and then designed as an exhibition space. It stood empty for many years and is now a residential building. A walk along the waterfront is a free tour of the tower.

2600 Vác, Liszt Ferenc sétány 12.
