Nagy-Hideg-hegy Ski and Hiking Centre
If you're aiming for the top, we offer two in Börzsöny. Each promises an adventure of its own, but you can also do the classic Börzsöny circular tour at the same time. Starting from the popular Királyrét, you should first reach the 865-metre-high Nagy-Hideg hill, where you will find a tourist chalet with a wonderful panorama. In winter, the best ski lifts await you here. Continuing on, you will reach the highest peak of the Börzsöny, Csóványos, at 938 metres, with minor climbs, but surrounded by babbling brooks and chirping birds. The hike can be completed in several smaller stages. Which one do you want to do?
Nagy-Hideg Mountain Ski and Hiking Centre
The Börzsöny is one of the most popular hiking areas, the second highest peak (865m) is the very popular Big Cold Mountain. The easiest way to reach it is from Királyrét, with a classic circular route that also touches the highest peak, Csóványos 938.
It is a moderately difficult hiking section, with gentle and sometimes steeply ascending sections. However, the effort is amply compensated by the views from the viewpoints. The Nagy-Hideg hill is also home to one of the country's oldest Tuirista hotels, so if you're planning a multi-day hike in Börzsöny, we recommend trying out one of these authentic accommodations. In winter, the mountain becomes a ski resort, and although the winters have been very capricious in recent years, at this altitude you can still indulge in winter sports quite often. One of the longest ski runs in Hungary (one and a half km of downhill slopes) has both easier and more difficult slopes, and access is facilitated by five ski lifts.
Stunning
The highest peak of the Börzsöny, 935m high, is one of the most popular hiking destinations. If you love nature and forest hikes, you may find it a bit of a challenge, a peak to conquer. After Big Cold Mountain, there are a few stronger climbs, but really, once you've made it this far, it shouldn't be too difficult. The beauty of the landscape is magical in all seasons. Walking alongside trickling streams in fresh forest surroundings is a truly exhilarating experience. It is advisable to bring enough water, as there are no water points on the forest trail except at the Big Cold Mountain Chalet.
Go on an adventure and conquer the highest peaks of the Börzsöny!
