Sajdik cartoon collection

Sajdik Collection

If you've been to Vác before, you've probably heard of one of the coolest exhibitions, Ferenc Sajdik's caricature exhibition. Recently, however, it has moved to a new location, with the addition of newer and newer works. The exhibition has found a new home in the historic Pannónia House, where the artist's works are presented thematically.

All his portraits are very apt. The characteristic drawings do not end with the frame, but he continues to think about the subject by adding different materials and objects, which complement and reinforce its effect. In each case, a characteristic feature of the person depicted is revealed.

Of particular interest is the collection of pictures of Vác. The visit of Maria Theresa to Vác is based on a legend that the Empress did not dare to pass under the Arc de Triomphe, which was built incredibly quickly for her. There are arguments for and against, and the location of soldiers and passers-by does not reveal whether the legend has any truth to it. Sajdik portrays the astonished monarch with a curious sense of humour, but without resolution. The picture of Petőfi's ink bottle could not be better placed, since the poet himself stayed in this building, which was then a guest inn called the Golden Horn.

Children are also welcome to visit the exhibition, as Arthur the Dumpling's plush figure is always eager to be stroked. And if they're young and perhaps unfamiliar with the voracious bird, there's a room for them to watch a few fairy tales while they visit the museum. Ferenc Sajdik's distinctive characters are always cheerful and light-hearted, providing a pleasant pastime for the whole family.

The permanent exhibition features nearly 140 paintings, and is accompanied by a temporary exhibition on various themes.
